Understand impact and performance information
Choose impact-rated glazing by the exact approved configuration. A brand name, glass thickness or broad product-family description does not establish eligibility for a particular opening.
Sketch the panel count and the side where panels will stack. Include the traffic-door preference, inside and outside floor levels, clear opening width and the space needed for handles, furniture and folded panels.
Begin with the project requirements
The project address, building exposure, opening location, substrate and design pressures determine what the design team needs to review. Wind pressure, debris impact, energy performance and water penetration are separate criteria.
Match the approval to the assembly
Confirm the model, maximum approved dimensions, glass composition, frame, anchors, fastener spacing and installation conditions. A general product-page dimension is not proof that the same size is approved for an impact application.
Read values in their tested context
publishes performance information and technical sheets for its systems. Values are tied to tested configurations and should not be applied to every available size or glass option. A dash in a table means no value is supplied there.
Keep weather protection categories distinct
Storm windows are secondary glazing installed with an existing window. Exterior Louvers is an exterior shading product. Neither term establishes hurricane-impact protection. Request the specific tested system when impact resistance is required.
Keep the approved documents with the order
Retain the selected approval, shop drawings, installation detail and final opening schedule. The quoted configuration should match what the installer and design team have reviewed.
